Veteran Mental Health Resources

Life doesn't always become easier when treatment ends. Veterans living with PTSD, anxiety, depression, stress or difficult transitions may still need practical tools, connection and somewhere to turn between appointments and programs.

The Space Between

Support Shouldn't End When the Program Does

Treatment programs, counseling and professional mental-health care can provide veterans with valuable skills and support. But eventually the appointment ends, the program concludes and the veteran goes home.

The challenges veterans face don't necessarily follow that schedule.

Difficult moments can happen late at night, during stressful situations, after an argument, when sleep isn't coming or when someone simply feels overwhelmed.

The Reveille Foundation is working to help veterans keep practical tools and resources within reach during those moments.

Understanding the Tools

Practical Mental Health Skills

Different approaches can teach different ways of understanding thoughts, emotions, reactions and difficult experiences.

Reveille is being developed to make educational mental-health concepts easier for veterans to access and revisit when they need them.

DBT Skills

Dialectical Behavior Therapy includes skills related to mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness. These skills can provide practical ways to slow down, recognize what is happening and respond intentionally during difficult moments.

CBT Skills

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy explores connections between thoughts, emotions and behaviors. Educational CBT concepts can help people recognize patterns of thinking and consider different ways of responding to situations.

CPT Concepts

Cognitive Processing Therapy is commonly used in professional treatment of post-traumatic stress. Reveille may provide educational information about concepts veterans have encountered during professional treatment so those ideas remain easier to revisit afterward.

Grounding

Grounding exercises focus attention on the present moment and immediate surroundings. Simple grounding techniques can be useful tools for reconnecting attention with what is happening right now.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness involves deliberately noticing thoughts, feelings and experiences in the present moment. It can be practiced in many ways and does not require special equipment or a particular location.

Daily Check-Ins

Taking a moment to notice mood, stress, anxiety, sleep and other experiences can help someone become more aware of changes and patterns over time.

Build a Bigger Toolbox

There isn't one technique that works perfectly for every veteran or every situation.

A veteran's toolbox might include professional treatment, trusted friends, other veterans, family members, grounding exercises, coping skills, physical activity, faith, peer support or other healthy resources.

The goal of Reveille isn't to replace those resources. It is to help make additional educational tools and connections easier to reach.

The Reveille App

The Reveille Foundation is developing a veteran-focused mobile application designed to place educational skills, daily check-ins and helpful resources directly into a veteran's pocket.

The application is currently in development for Android, with testing and preparation for Google Play distribution underway.
